The 12th meeting of the season at Marsa yesterday featured eight all-trotting races, all held on a mile distance.

With no events from the Premier Class, the highlights of the programme were the four races from the Gold category. Yesterday, young Rodney Gatt was the best driver of the afternoon with two wins.

In the opening Gold race, favourite Osiris des Kids (Noel Baldacchino) dashed strongly from the outside to obtain its second consecutive victory.

Osiris des Kids won by a length from Oviedo du Sam (Redent Magro), Okir de Leau (Brian Hili) and Swedish newcomer Global Hunt (Jason Vassallo).

Zilver Boko (Tony Demanuele) sped ahead with a lap to go in the next Gold race. This Dutch horse went on to make it two wins at Marsa with Pirate d’Urzy (Eugenio Bondin) second ahead of Lys des Etroits (Joe Debattista) and Paradis du Lupin (Ramon Briffa).

She’s Dreamlike (Julian Farrugia) surged in front 300m from the post to beat Touch The Diamond (David Ellul) for its second win in Malta. Reado November (Shawn Portelli) was third ahead of Matador Knick (Carmelo Farrugia).

Frisco PE (Kevin Sciberras) started to slow down around 200m from the post of the fourth Gold race.

The Danish newcomer was eventually overtaken by Le Bolide Du Suret (Melvin Farrugia), Figaro A West (Charles Camilleri) and Marini du Mont (Salvu Vella).

Yesterday’s card also included two races from the Silver category.

Stainless Steel (Charles Camilleri) sprinted ahead of the field with 150m remaining to win the opening Silver race and Lonestar Somolli (Brian Zammit) increased its pace in the straight for home to clinch the honours in the other.

Meanwhile, Noel Baldacchino was yesterday presented with the trophy for the best driver in February.

Last month, Baldacchino, 42, won six races in all and also had a number of high finishes in other races. The meeting on February 10 was a memorable one for Baldacchino who won three major events.

Karl Debono, on behalf of Finntack, presented a memento to Baldacchino.

The next meeting at Marsa will be held on Sunday, starting at 1.30 p.m.
