For the fourth consecutive year, the Faculty of ICT at the University of Malta will be organising the Workshop in Information and Communication Technology (WICT) at the Victoria Hotel in Sliema from March 21 to 22.

WICT 2012 will showcase the research currently being carried out at the faculty, while promoting interdepartmental and industry collaboration and serving as a further inspiration to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

WICT 2012 will focus on quality published and emerging research in ICT. The general WICT 2012 themes willinclude the following research areas: Artificial Intelligence, Communications and Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Micro and Nanoelectronics.

The workshop is mainly targeted towards undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, industry players and entrepreneurs seeking opportunities for research and innovation.

This year, there will be four high profile international speakers who will discuss various aspects of ICT.

The presentations will be divided in two main sessions: the Published Work Session and the Work in Progress Session.

The first session is a showcase of internationally published peer-reviewed papers. This track is intended for academics, post-graduate students and industrial partners who will present papers that have been published since January 2011 or have confirmed acceptance in a leading international conference proceedings or journal.

On the other hand, the Work in Progress Session is intended for researchers who will present an original paper dealing with both the theoretical and practical aspects of ICT research.

This workshop is one of a number of activities organised by the Faculty of ICT to promote and enhance research and development through the dissemination of effort made by academic researchers and students reading for a degree in ICT at the University of Malta.

The programme of events clearly indicates that the holistic view, characteristic of ICT, including the design of both hardware and software systems, is definitely being highlighted.
