The University’s Department of Systems and Control Engineering is holding three public talks on technologies for underwater exploration.

The first talk, entitled ‘Visualisation of underwater data’, will be given by Zoe Wood from California Polytechnic State University, on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Room MP101, Maths and Physics Building.

Dr Wood will discuss the visualisation of underwater science and geometric data acquired by underwater robots.

The second talk, entitled ‘Remote sensing at sea: an end user’s tale’ will be given by Timmy Gambin from The Aurora Trust and the University’s Department of Classics and Archaeology on March 20 at 4 p.m. in Room MP101, Maths and Physics Building.

Dr Gambin will discuss, from an archaeologist’s perspective, the hardware, software and methodologies used for remote sensing projects at sea.

The third talk, entitled ‘Tracking Sharks with Autonomous Underwater Vehicles’ by Christopher Clark from California Polytechnic State University, will be take place on March 23 at 4 p.m. in the Engineering Lecture Theatre, Engineering Building.

This talk will present the recent progress in using Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) to autonomously track and follow sharks tagged with acoustic transceivers.

All those interested are invited to attend. For further information contact Simon Fabri on Tel. 2340 2079 or e-mail on simon.fabri@um.edu.mt.
