A large patch of burnt tar was recently dumped on the path and garigue close to Ix-Xagħra l-Ħamra at the Majjistral Park.

In a statement, the park management condemned the vandalism which it said was observed during a guided walk with students attending the Foundation for Educational Services Youth.Inc Programme.

The students were visiting the park as a preparation for their upcoming voluntary working day on site next week.

The management said fresh dumping was also noticed in the barracks area where despite continuous cleanups picnickers persisted to leave their rubbish behind. The barracks area is currently being surveyed for eventual restoration after hundreds of volunteers helped to cleanup the site.

The management appealed to the public to leave cars outside the park area, enjoy the park on foot and take their litter back home with them. It encouraged the public to report any illegal or suspicious activities to the police..

Groups or individuals who wanted to carry out voluntary work on site should contact the park's management at info@majjistral.org .
