A court case over the recent alleged attack on a young lesbian couple stalled again today when two doctors and a minor failed to turn up to give evidence.

The minor claimed she was sick and sent a medical certificate.

Medical doctors Carlo Refalo and Phillipa Ergyu failed to turn up despite being notified. Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna ordered the police to escort them to court for the next sitting.

He also warned that if he received another doctor's certificate, he would ask the doctor concerned to testify.

The case centres on an alleged attack of two lesbians, aged 15 and 16, by two brothers aged 15 and 17 – and a 35-year-old woman – who are pleading not guilty of attacking the girls.

The girls themselves are also pleading not guilty to assault charges.

During the last sitting, the daughters of the 35-year-old woman chose not to testify against their mother, as is their right.

In a previous sitting, one of the brothers failed to turn up and the sitting was deferred.

Magistrate Apap Bologna said today that although the girls chose not to testify against their mother they could testify against the other accused. He therefore ordered that they should be notified to give evidence.
