I have been residing in Iklin for the last 30 years, hence I am urging all residents to carry out their duty and go to elect their new council by voting for all the three candidates representing the Labour Party. Thus, all the residents would have decent roads and pavements together with an effective traffic management system that cares for their environment.
This will help us begin to breathe less toxic fumes emanting from such a heavy flow of traffic, which is resulting in various health problems.
Our council should apply for European funds to safeguard the environment through the creation of a public garden big enough to cater for the needs of all Iklin residents. The central government is duly obliged to offer a plot of land to the Iklin local council to minimise the serious negative impact that the present traffic pollution is causing to the detriment of Iklin residents’ health.
Our locality merits a muti-purpose sports centre, which is still on paper. Although it has been promised, work on it has not begun. This is what our youngsters need to enable them to take part in various sports disciplines and socialise. We should make sure that this environment is safe for our youths. It should be well monitored by cameras and lit adequately by solar energy. This is the way to make better citizens for tomorrow for the good of society.
We can cooperate with the central government in the provision of child care facilities, if funds are duly allocated, so that more women from our locality can return to work. For the benefit of the locality and even for the economic benefit of the country, a Labour council in Iklin would be always in favour of such a project, maybe even through European funds.
The flooding problem of parts of Iklin should be tackled immediately by the central government. This has been promised many times by the central government, especially on the eve of the elections, but, to date, nothing has yet materialised. We pledge to constantly pressure the government to take the necessary action to eliminate, once and for all, the hardship that is being endured by all the lower-lying communities. It is our duty to save as much water as we can in the process.
As the building of the Iklin council offices is still not approved and taking into consideration the petition tendered by the residents against the chosen site, all the Labour councillors will defend their right to keep the only existent open space intact. We are strongly in favour of the project but it is definitely marred by the chosen site, which we cannot condone.
All local councils should be helped in their tasks by the central government without any distinction because local councils were instituted to cater for all the residents of the locality without any distinction.
