The government has commissioned KPMG to study the proposal made by Sargas on the building of a power station, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi  said in reply to a parliamentary question today.

The question was put by Nationalist MP Jesmond Mugliett. The study is still in progress.

Sargas last November proposed a power plant run on coal and biomass with modern carbon capture technology, saying it would almost halve the cost per unit of electricity.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance said last week that the extension of the power station at Delimara has been completed and is being tested.
