Bad weather leads to 38% drop in cruise passengers
Passenger Movements at the Valletta Cruise Port last month totalled 3,853, 38 per cent less than February last year.
Valletta Cruise Port said the main reason for the drop was the cancellation of a call due to bad weather.
As a result there was only one call throughout the month.
Prior to this cancellation, passenger movements in February this year, were expected to exceed the total for the same month last year.
The total passenger movements to date is 15,967 or seven per cent more than the total for the first two months of 2011.

Malta's tourism is down all round. Why. We went into a travel agent earlier this week for a brochure to take a quick break in the Canaries. cost £1630 The same week in Malta £1989 at present I can search for holidays around Europe, the most expensive place is Cyprus closely followed by Malta.
I have said this many times Travel Agents are advising people not to go to Malta because of the cost. I personally do not care, I will be there, as always, whatever the Agents say and as long as the costs are not out of this world. Malta needs to get the tourist back before its too late. We eat lunch everyday in a different town, with the bus cost can I afford to do that this year. or do I stay around the hotel and go all inclusive.

I was on a cruise ship which was due to enter Malta last month, it was rerouted to Messina due to bad weather.
I believe the port entry in Malta is too narrow for these huge ships. Could you imagine what would happen if one of these ships is pushed against the breakwater? That would be catastrophic, another Costa Concordia on our shores.
I wonder if Malta has the rescue resources to rescue over 4,000 passengers from a sinking cruise liner. Food for thought.

the bad weather ! rather Concordia's shipwreck and Allegra's electrical problems with Costa cruises.

Allegra's problems were not the reason for sure, it happened too late in the month (27th) to make any difference

I don't really know why the drop happened but I don't think that the bad weather is to blame! Could it be that the cruises in the Mediterranean sea dropped because of the Costa Concordia accident?

Was it really so?

JB perhaps if you remove the red blindfold from your eyes, you could see that it's really so
