A request to build an underground bring-in site on the main road leading to Għargħur was turned down because it would have created a potential traffic hazard.

Requested by WasteServ, the bring-in site would have covered 37 square metres with three separate bins linked to underground containers on Għargħur and San Ġwann Road.

However, Transport Malta objected to the project, saying it would create a hazard because it was on the opposite lane to approaching cars, leading to a large number of vehicles doing a U-turn – especially if the site was for Għargħur residents.

Also, the area for the bring-in site was not marked out and cars and service vehicles would park adjacent to the bins instead of in the proposed unloading bays. This would reduce the visibility of drivers emerging from an adjacent alley, the transport authority said.

The planning authority noted that no fresh plans had submitted to address Transport Malta’s issues.
