The government and various trade unions have agreed to form a task force to discuss measures to improve hospital services in the context of unusually high demand.

A meeting was held today between Health Minister Joseph Cassar, Parliamentary Secretary Mario Galea and representatives of the MAM, the GWU and the UHM. The MUMN did not attend.

During the meeting, hospital officials presented data showing a 'drastic' increase in demand for hospital services in the past two months compared to the same months last year.

Measures taken so far and other proposals were discussed. The discussion will continue within the task force.

The MUMN will be invited for the talks.

Earlier today the MUMN said it was not attending today's meeting after nurses in the primary health sector were invited to work at Karin Grech hospital without it having been consulted.
