The Gozo Tourism Association (GTA) will be setting up an online booking portal on its website with the financial support of the Gozo Ministry, the association’s chairman Paul Scicluna announced during the annual general meeting at the Citadel Cinema in Victoria.

Mr Scicluna said this would be of great benefit to all stakeholders who are members of the association.

He said that notwithstanding the increase of tourist arrivals last year, the increase was almost neutralised by decreases in arrivals from the domestic market.

Mr Scicluna said authorities needed to address the particular challenges faced by the tourism sector, particularly in strenghtening tourism and specialised niches that could attract more tourists in the lean and shoulder months, while opening horizons on other markets.

Mr Scicluna said the association was in favour of more accessibility options, including an air link, incentive schemes for the domestic market and the introduction of seasonal fares by the Gozo Channel Company to attract more domestic tourists.

The meeting was also addressed by Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono, Tourism Minister Mario de Marco and Labour spokesman for tourism Gavin Gulia.
