The first of the twice-yearly Children Cinema Days will be held on Saturday.

Reduced admission prices of €2.50 for children and €4 for accompanying adults on the day

Organised by KRS Film Distributors, with the collaboration of cinemas nationwide, the 20 films selected for the 23rd edition of this popular event feature a mixture of genres which should appeal to cinemagoers of all ages and varied tastes.

The programme includes a number of animation titles including the popular Puss in Boots, Happy Feet 2 and The Smurfs, together with the likes of Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin – Secret of the Unicorn, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked and the whimsical Monster in Paris.

Action lovers can choose between Big Miracle; Journey 2: The Mysterious Island; the recent adaptation of popular classic The Three Musketeers; Hugh Jackman in Real Steel and Tom Cruise back as agent Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, while Star Wars buffs can relive the adventures of Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

Those who prefer solid family drama can check out Spielberg’s War Horse, Martin Scorsese’s magical Hugo, the winner of five Academy Awards; and Dolphin Tale and Soul Surfer, both of which are based on real-life events.

If comedy is more your thing, Rowan Atkinson fumbles his way through Johnny English Reborn; The Muppets offer a nostalgia-filled comic adventure and Adam Sandler fans get two of him for the price of one in Jack and Jill.

Even the romantics out there have been taken into consideration, with the inclusion of The Vow in the varied lineup.

All the films carry either a ‘PG’ or ‘U’ classification, with the exception of The Vow, which is rated ‘12’.

Reduced admission prices of €2.50 for children and €4 for accompanying adults will be charged. KRS said there will be a “slight increase” in the price of 3D films for both children and adults.

Screenings start starting at 9 a.m. and run until 7 p.m. Film shows at the 2-screen Citadel Cinema in Gozo will be at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Filmgoers are advised to check with cinemas for the full schedules of films showing. Early booking is recommended.
