A 33-year-old woman was yesterday charged with tak-ing drugs into prison by hiding a number of sachets of heroin in her pri-vate parts.

The Żabbar woman allegedly admitted she took the drugs into prison when she was questioned by the police following a tip-off. However, while in her statement she said she had taken drugs into prison once, the police said this happened at least four times.

She pleaded not guilty to trafficking drugs, taking them into prison, being in possession of heroin in circumstances denoting it was not for her exclusive use and relapsing.

Police Inspector Dennis Theuma said he was objecting to bail being given because of the seriousness of the charges.

However, Lawyer Toni Abela asked for bail.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale granted her bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 and a deposit of €500.
