According to the Eectoral Register published last October, 16,632 persons are eligible to vote on March 10 to elect 13 councillors to serve on the St Paul’s Bay council for the next four years. Qawra, Buġibba, Xemxija, Burmarrad, Għajn Tuffieħa and part of Bidnija all form part of the locality.

Following the door to door delivery of the voting documents, 9,218 or 55 per cent remained undelivered in the locality of St Paul’s Bay. This was the highest percentage among all the other localities. Hopefully, by now more residents would have collected their document in order to be able to vote on election day.

Set up only a few months ago, our association Safeguarding St Paul’s Bay does not feel it should pass judgement on the performance or non-performance of the current council. We leave the residents themselves to arrive at their own conclusions.

Some residents may decide to stay at home on election day because they have lost hope of and feel disillusioned by some of the present councillors be they Nationalist or Labour. This is wrong.

March 10 is an opportunity for all residents to have their say and elect those councillors whom they feel can work for the interest of our locality and deliver on their promises. We should be the ones to decide by whom we want to be governed in the locality level in the coming years.

Our association makes only one appeal to the residents of the localities that fall within the jurisdiction of the St Paul’s Bay council – cast your vote on March 10.
