There comes a point where the ideal local councillor must have the right balance between energy and experience. We usually judge one’s experience on accomplishments, and one’s energy on the proposals for the locality.

Thinking about the Sliema local council, there is a dire need of good local councillors to regain the residents’ trust in local governance. There are too many residents who still have not picked up their vote. Out of the 19 candidates, only one stands out among the rest.

Michael Briguglio has already served as a councillor and certainly has the technical expertise of how a local council works. In the face of the endless PNPL bickering, Mr Briguglio is a breath of fresh air and a Green party’s agenda is just what Sliema needs.

Although the temptation of voting for an independent candidate might run high, Sliema residents should not forget the power of the third party in a local council. The success stories of Chalet, Qui-si-Sana and Il-Pjazzetta are the evidence of Alternattiva Demokratika’s influence in any local council.

I urge all Sliema voters who have not picked up their vote to do so and give their first preference to Mr Briguglio, who has proven himself to have the right balance of experience and energy.
