The Plant Health Directorate has stopped the importation of three citrus fruit consignments from Spain and Italy.
The fruit, with leaves and peduncles, was seized during routine inspections to control the spread of the Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV), which is the most destructive citrus disease worldwide.
Locally produced citrus fruit can be sold with leaves and peduncles as long as they originate from CTV-free areas. Citrus growers within the demarcated areas of CTV findings, San Blas and Daħlet Qorrot valleys in Gozo, are not allowed to sell produce with leaves and peduncles.
