The price of unleaded petrol has risen steeply, by 3c a litre, while that of diesel and kerosene increased by 1c, Enemalta Corporation announced yesterday.

It said the new prices reflected the cost of the latest shipments of imported fuel.

Petrol has gone up to €1.45 while diesel and kerosene to €1.36.

Enemalta explained that although it had received no new consignment of diesel in February, the price was being revised to reflect movement in stock levels.

According to the latest oil prices bulletin issued by the European Commission on February 20, Malta has the 17th most expensive petrol among the 27 member states. In the diesel index, Malta has the 7th lowest price.

The rise comes after another hike of 1c on both petrol and diesel in January.
