Arriva's Għinni Nasal Campaign (Arriva's Help Me Get There Campaign), was launched this morning with a number of voluntary organisations.

The campaign is aimed at helping those who are taking their first steps towards re-integrating in society by providing them with free mobility in the short term, as they embark on a journey to rebuild their lives and their self.

"Arriva’s Għinni Nasal Campaign will provide free mobility on the short term to people who need it most. Trasport is Arriva’s central role within the Maltese community and the Għinni Nasal Campaign will allow organsations to apply for this scheme in the name of people who need mobility. Mobility is central for anybody to be part of society, and as public trasport provider we want to help in our way to give those who need it a first step in their journey back towards society,” commercial managerThomas Dimech said.

The public transport provider is already working with Sedqa, Caritas, the Richmond Foundation and St Joseph Home. Other organisations were also being invited to benefit from the initiative.

The organisations provide Arriva with the names and details of the people needing the transport and why and the company would take them from point to point.

This service could be for those about to start working, for example.

Dr Karm Farrugia, from Caritas, said that although this seemed to be a minor initiative, it meant a lot, as people would be assisted to get to their destination, which was, ultimately, independent living.

Fr Frankie Cini from St Joseph Home said this initiative would be especially useful for those finishing school and moving on to a job.

He hoped the initiate would serve as an example for other institutions to give their share.
