Tenor Joseph Calleja was last week officially appointed as the country’s first cultural ambassador by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.

The 34-year-old internationally acclaimed tenor said the nomination left him speechless.

Dr Gonzi said such a responsibility was wider than that of a normal ambassador and the government had nominated Mr Calleja to represent Malta’s rich and unique heritage through his talent and experience.
