Preventing traffic accidents

Traffic casualties result from a variety of factors pertaining to driver, pedestrian and infrastructure. It is the responsibility of society as a whole to address such an important issue.

Through the proper use of zebra crossings many of the accidents can be avoided, if such crossings are properly maintained. If in a poor state these crossings only act as Russian roulette.

Motorists can easily drive by without noticing the presence of a zebra crossing due to faint white markings along with the lack of proper lighting.

Those crossing the road are at great risk.

Sadly enough, this was the scenario for most pedestrian crossings situated along the Qawra coast road until recently.

I find it unacceptable how such upkeep is only given proper attention once local council elections are near.

As an elected councillor on behalf of Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party I will work towards the constant upkeep of such zebra crossings.
