Moviment Graffitti has erected 'tombstones' to mourn trees which are being uprooted along the roads in Marsa and Luqa because of road works.

Over 40 cardboard tombstones with the words 'R.I.P. Siġra' and even some candles, were placed next to the trees which are being removed.

Andre Callus, spokesman for the group, denounced the uprooting of trees on Garibaldi Road and Council of Europe Road.

"A huge amount of trees have been chopped down, making this site a 'tree-cemetery," he said.

"It is ironic that while the government is encouraging tree-planting with the 34U campaign, it is on the other hand implementing policies where hundreds of treest are being uprooted all over Malta."
