A sharp-eyed traffic policeman foiled a robbery at the Exchange office building in Paceville yesterday morning.

Sources said the officer, who was on patrol in the area, saw two men acting suspiciously at about 10 a.m. yesterday. One of them jumped over the main gate while his accomplice was waiting on the outside.

The sources said that PC Vassallo, who last year won the officer of the year award, had to use pepper spray to handcuff the accomplice who tried to flee the scene and also attempted to head butt the officer. The other suspect was handcuffed as he tried to climb over the gate, the sources said.

Officers from the mobile squad and more traffic policemen responded to a call for assistance and escorted the two suspects, believed to be foreigners, for questioning. They are expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
