The ninth meeting of the season at Marsa yesterday was made up of 11 races all for trotters on a short distance of 2,140m. The highlights of the programme were three races from the Gold class.

In the first of these races, Matador Knick (Carmelo Farrugia) made a strong dash on the outside to obtain its first win of the year, way ahead of Pirate d’Urzy (Eugenio Bondin).

Nicos de Peneme (Kevin Azzo-pardi) registered its second win of the season in the second Gold race of the afternoon.

This horse went decisively in front midway through the straight and finished first from Lime Casted (Charles Camilleri).

In the other race from the Gold category, Ouragan d’Any (Frans Gauci) increased its speed with a lap to go. This French ten-year-old registered its second consecutive win ahead of Lover Boy Index (Noel Baldacchino).

The card yesterday also included five races for Silver trotters.

French newcomer Petrus du Vivier (Mark Desira) won the first in the series, two lengths ahead of Stanford Hornline (Anton Pace), and Lord of Rush (Ludvic Ghigo) followed suit in the next race.

In the third Silver race, French debutante Oviedo du Sam (Redent Magro) stormed clear of the field with 200m left to claim its first win on the islands as Oscar Mati (Rodney Gatt) led all the way in the next silver race.

Osiris des Kids (Noel Baldac-chino) surged ahead around 300m from the finishing line of the fifth class Silver Class event.

Osiris des Kids registered its first win of the season from Schejken Bill (Julian Farrugia).

Another programme will be held on Sunday. This will include a series of heats from it-Tazza l-Kbira championship.
