Around 70 people attended concelebrated Mass led by Nadur parish priest Fr Jimmy Xerri on the site where a new cemetery is being built by the Nadur parish.

In 2006, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority approved the 600-grave cemetery, but work on the cemetery has stopped due to various reasons.

Nine NGOs are supporting Nadur farmers in their bid to halt the cemetery development, which they say will damage freshwater springs that have been used for centuries.

But people who had bought a burial site said they were being deprived of their fundamental right of giving a dignified burial to their loved ones.

The Mass will be held every month and the next one is scheduled for March 6 at 4 p.m.
