Melita is extending free wifi access in Paceville till the end of April.

The extension will enable Melita to gather more information on usage patterns and additional client feedback on user experience. The service leverages the strength of the nationwide availability of Melita’s superior fibrepower broadband internet technology.

Earlier this year, Melita said the first two weeks of the free wifi trials in Paceville had seen more than 2,000 hours of internet used.

Users visiting Paceville must use a 3G mobile device to complete a one-time registration process, then search available wifi networks and select the network called ‘M Free Wifi’.

After entering a mobile number, users will receive an SMS with a registration code.

The free wifi service is currently available in the main streets of Paceville covering an area of almost half a square kilometre. Melita’s wifi trial project is underway with the collaboration of industry leaders Motorola, Belair and Aptilo.

“The results obtained from this pilot project are very encouraging,” Melita’s head of strategic projects said.

“We have received very good feedback from our clients and other stakeholders and we are determined to invest further in this initiative which may eventually lead to the deployment of a nationwide wifi network.”
