These pictures tell the story of the controversial new development of the City Gate of Valletta.

The Gate, rebuilt four times, is currently undergoing yet another chapter in its life, making way for a new entrance to the city.

Now a new film documentary from German video artist Bettina Hutschek, called City Gate – a Diary of Demolition, records the new changes aimed at bringing together the citizens and the town itself.

Stage by stage, the demolition – seen in these pictures from the film – is a diary of record for us all to keep.

Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the area will be yet another transformation in the Gate’s history, providing the correct balance between the past and the future.

The film will be screened at Architecture Project headquarters, 4, Sappers Street, Valletta between March 2 and March 16. Monday to Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to1 p.m. For more information: www.ap.com.mt, www.bettina-hutschek.com
