Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja this afternoon promised to do his utmost to promote Malta's name all over the world as he was appointed the country's cultural ambassador by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.
Thanking the Prime Minister for the honour, Mr Calleja said that the nomination had rendered him speechless.
He said he was proud of Malta's acquisitions and noted that not many small countries had managed to have their own history, identity, culture and language.
Dr Gonzi said that the responsibility of a cultural ambassador was wider than that of a normal ambassador.
This was because through his talent and experience, a cultural ambassador had to represent Malta's rich heritage, which made the country unique.
