Emergency number (2)
Why shouldn’t we have one worldwide emergency number? Isn’t it obvious? My suggestion would be 911 because this is the most advertised number and I’m positive 2.9 in every three know it.

It is not rocket science to learn 112 as the emergency number. Stop being so technical. One, one and then followed by two. Who is the genius that crops up with all these problems? DIAL 112 in case of emergency..

112 is in use all over Europe. It will work even without a sim card.
Many countries, however, have sensibly simply re-directed the old emergency numbers, e.g. 999 to the emergency services anyway.
As a matter of interest, 999 was chosen as in the days of the old dial phones, the 9 was closest to the metal bit and so was most easily found in the dark if necessary.

I think 112 is the ideal number, and I don't think it a question of remembering the number. The proximity of the numbers makes it easier to feel in the dark especially by blind people .

911 is only used in America - you obviously watch too much American TV - just joking!

112 is the fully recognised emergency number throughout europe.
Even UK which used to be 999 has adopted 112

Ben the UK have not as you say adopted 112 in favour of 999. The emergency number in the UK is still 999 but if you are a visitor and dial 112 it will be automatically routed to the emergency services. Having said that I think all countries should adopt a single emergency number as this would be a more logical way to go.

Why should we have 911 and become Americanized. Yes, It is the most advertised number if your watch TV all the time.
Why not 999 as the English do. I believe that 112 is used in Europe, but check up on this. No, let us leave it as 112. I can remember it so why not you.?

Hi Lawrence - we still use 999 in UK but it's being phased out in favour of 112 which we can use already, 112 is definitely used all across the EU - Thank you Brussels ;-)
