Two protests launched

St Andrew’s and St George’s have lodged protests against the result of last Saturday’s league matches against Lija Athletic and Birżeb-buġa respectively.

St Andrew’s, who lost the match 3-1, are contending that Lija violated regulations by making use of four non-homegrown players, namely Ini Etim Akpan, Renato Conceicao, Erjon Beu and Ige Adesina.

According to the rules, Division One clubs cannot have more than three ‘foreign’ players on the pitch at the same time.

Luxol are basing their complaint on the status of goalkeeper Akpan who, despite having Maltese citizenship, doesn’t satisfy the criteria to be considered as a homegrown player.

On their part, relegation battlers St George’s are contending that substitute Boycho Marev was ineligible to play in the cham-pionship as he already played for two other clubs before joining Birżebbuġa this season.

Birżebbuġa beat St George’s 2-0 on Saturday to move to a mid-table position.
