One of two Libyan Mirage F1 fighter jets, still armed, is about to touch down at the Malta International Airport a year ago today, at the start of the Libya uprising. It is the first time a photo of the Mirages about to land has been released. Two Libyan Air Force pilots defected to Malta after being ordered to bomb two villages, asking for political asylum. Eight months later the green roundel on the two jets was replaced with the new Libyan flag. The jets leave for Libya this morning in a ceremony after carrying out successful trial runs yesterday.
