A Moroccan woman has been acquitted of running a brothel and committing an offence against decency in public after she was caught dressed provocatively in a bar while talking to some men.

The only evidence brought against 32-year-old Rajaa Mokaddem, from Casablanca, was that she was wearing a low cut top and see-through skirt with her g-string showing, Magistrate Audrey Demicoli said.

Ms Mokaddem pleaded not guilty to operating a brothel, offences against decency or morals committed in public and indecent exposure.

Police officers found Ms Mokaddem at the gentlemen’s club Midnight Cowboy in St Julians in November 2006, wearing the skimpy outfit.

The police testified that pole and lap dancing happens inside the club.

Magistrate Demicoli said the way the woman was dressed could not be thought of as an offence against public morals or decency.

Furthermore it was very similar to what one would see on a beach in summer or on dancers who were on television so very often.
