The fourth 40-over winter series game between Krishna and Melita Betfair was played on Saturday at Marsa.

Melita started the match leading the series 2-1. They batted first but had a shocking start after losing five top-order wickets for 36 runs by the end of the 16th over.

Derek Ali did most of the damage, taking four wickets, by far the best for Krishna on the day.

Mike Caruana barely believed what had happened when he joined Frank Spiteri, who had opened the innings, at the crease.

Together they steadied the ship for Melita, producing a run of 86 points.

That partnership, however, came to an end with a great piece of fielding from Mark G. Sacco who caught the ball and skittled the stumps with a direct hit that saw Spiteri just out of his line.

The strange thing about this run-out was that while Spiteri was after a single, his partner seemed worried that he had damaged his bat and had no intention of looking for a run.

Spiteri top-scored for the day with a great 70 as Caruana went on to make 36 runs.

Prasad Abeysinghe added 14 but ‘extras’ was the third-highest score contributor for Melita with 32 runs for a moderate tally of 168.

Krishna had a much better start than their opponents with Nowell Khosla and Sacco combining for a 38-run partnership until the latter was out for 19.

Andrew Mitchell added 20 and Sunny Krishna was next in and next out, only managing ten runs.

Khosla was still at the crease and he was finally caught after hitting a score of 57. Ali then took his team to victory with 44 runs from 32 balls.
