Victoria Beckham is to help promote British tourism around the world, it was announced.
David now realises that I have a job. I don’t think he actually knew what I did
She will shoot a short film to support the VisitBritain’s “Great” campaign.
The campaign will also feature one of Ms Beckham’s fashion designs, with the former Spice Girls star becoming an international ambassador for the effort.
Prime Minister David Cameron, who first announced the campaign last year, said: “British fashion is a hugely important global industry and our designers have the talent, creativity and skills to rival anywhere in the world.
“Contributing over £20 billion to the British economy each year, our industry inspires. Fashion is a truly great British success story.”
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt added: “We have some incredible British fashion talent to be proud of.”
Meanwhile, Ms Beckham said her husband David finally understands that she has a job – after attending one of her catwalk shows for the first time. The LA Galaxy star attended the New York show to launch the former Spice Girl’s autumn/winter 2012 collection.
He sat in the front row, next to US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, to look after baby daughter Harper Seven.
Ms Beckham told the Grazia website: “This is the first time David’s been to a show, actually.
“So David now realises that I have a job. No,I don’t think he actually knew what I did.”
The 37-year-old mother of four revealed that she took inspiration from her footballer husband and her sporty sons when designing her latest collection.
She said: “David did have an influence. From the beanie hat ... and there was a boyfriend coat as well that was very much influenced by him.
“There was a sport element that I slightly touched on last season, this season it was very baseball with the stripes.”
Ms Beckham moved into design after her chart career, and her range landed the “designer brand of the year” title at the British Fashion Awards.
She said: “I get very influenced by everyday life and the baseball thing was literally me standing in the kitchen, Romeo, my son, walks in with his baseball outfit and I’m like ‘OK, that’s cool’.
“I’m designing what I want to wear and what feels right to me.”
