Breaking the silence

A seminar for medical students entitled ‘Breaking the silence’ dealing with sign language, people with hearing impairment and other communication difficulties will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Mater Dei Hospital by the Malta Medical Students’ Association.

The aim is to raise awareness about the impact hearing loss has on people as well as enhance the doctor-patient relationship by encouraging and enabling better communication. Topics to be discussed include patient psychology, speech language pathologies, hearing impairment from a doctor’s point of view, and the use of our body as a tool.

Patients with hearing impairment will also teach those attending basic sign language.
