British High Commissioner Louise Stanton met with Malta’s Paralympic team coordinator Nathan Farrugia on February 11 to mark 200 days to the start of the Paralympic Games to be held in London this summer.
The Paralympics, to be held from August 29 to September 9, will see almost 4,200 athletes compete in 20 sports in 15 different venues, with two million people expected to attend the various events.
Malta is keen to use the London 2012 Paralympics as a launch pad for the development of a national Paralympic Movement that extends across all sports and ages.
Ms Stanton said: “Together, we want to harness the opportunity the Paralympics Games present to bring about a change in the way people think, feel and behave towards disability and disability sport, thus creating an evenmore open and inclusive Maltese society.”
Mr Farrugia added: “The 2012 Games are a showcase that will enable us to promote adapted sports in Malta and Gozo and encourage youngsters to become active.”
