The first cohort of 17 students who undertook the Malta programme of the University of Sheffield’s MA in Early Childhood Education at St Catherine’s High School, Pembroke, recently celebrated their graduation at a presentation ceremony and a dinner at the Westin Dragonara Resort.
Jackie Marsh, head of the the university’s School of Education, spoke of the high calibre of the Malta-based students, while the director of the Malta programme, Cathy Nutbrown, hailed the richness and diversity of the studies undertaken by students and their desire to understand children and work with them in a deeper way.
The students were presented certificates, and a special prize was presented to Victoria Bugeja for her dissertation that explored aspects of childhood in post-war Malta.
The ceremony was followed by a dinner with family and friends at the Westin Dragonara’s Terrace Restaurant.
The university, in collaboration with St Catherine’s High School, runs postgraduate programmes in education, namely an MA in Early Childhood Education and an MA in Educational Studies, as well as a PhD programme for those studying education. Lectures are carried out during study weekends by the university’s academics.
New cohorts for these pro-grammes will start in October and registrations are being accepted.
