Santo Torre, a seventh dan black belt who holds the post of Italy’s national kata coach, and Sicilian Sensei Giuseppe Bartolo (fifth dan black belt), a specialist in kumite (sparring), conducted a seminar organised by the Malta Karate Federation (MKF) earlier this month.

The Italian experts were assisted by seven local dojo instructors.

Over 70 martial artists took part in the event which involved 20 hours of intense training. On the final day of the seminar, the MKF staged a mass session where all the participants trained together – from white to black belts.

“The enthusiasm shown by the kids as they mingled with senior black belts filled the training hall with energy,” the MKF said.

Kenneth Abela, the MKF president, said the aim of the seminar was to bring all members together.

Abela added that Torre also held a series of special classes for the MKF members, especially those who will represent Malta at the 2012 International Championships.
