Delicata reds given approval

The second batch of QWPSR (Quality Wine Produced in a Specific Region) submitted by Delicata for DOK classification from the 2011 vintage has been given approval.

The batch consisted of red wines that have either limited barrel maturation or none.

The six wines submitted and approved were four DOK Malta wines from the Medina range, which are the Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and the Syrah Carignan Grenache.

These four latest endorsements mean that all 10 2011 vintage wines in the Medina range have now received approval.

The remaining two red wines, classified as DOK Gozo, are the Victoria Heights Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc blend. These two 2011 vintage Gozo reds now accompany the Chardonnay and Rosé Shiraz, meaning that all the Victoria Heights range have again achieved DOK status.

The only remaining 2011 vintage Delicata wines awaiting QWPSR approval, which will be sought in Italy in the next few weeks, are Delicata’s red DOK wines that need to spend a minimum length of time in oak barrels to mature. These wines are the Grand Vin de Hauteville Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz Cabernet blend and the Gran Cavalier single varietal wines made from 100 per cent Syrah and Merlot.

This now brings the total number of Delicata wines receiving either IGT or DOK approval for the 2011 vintage up to 23.
