Stabbing case: wife claims husband made fun of her during suicide attempt

A woman who stands accused of the attempted murder of her husband told the police that she stabbed her husband during a raging argument after he made fun of her as she tried to commit suicide, a court was told this morning.

Charmaine Ellul stands accused of the attempted murder of her husband after an argument at their house last November.

Police Inspector Carlos Cordina said he had gone to hospital to interview the accused, but she was initially agitated and refused to speak to him.

Later she asked to speak to him and recounted what had taken place.

The inspector said the woman had admitted to stabbing her husband Jason after an argument during which she said, he had called her an ugly whore.

She claimed that she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him when he tried to assault her.

The inspector said that Mrs Ellul had told the police that during the argument, she tried to commit suicide by taking an overdose of pills. Her husband made fun of her. Instead of trying to stop her because she was putting her life in danger, he told her to stop because the pills were expensive.

The case continues.

Mr Grech, it's sickening to read comments such as yours! How can anyone judge a person who was suffering from moral abuse in it's worse form? A person is mocked when trying to take one's own life... How much lower can a human become? The husband could have been armed with whatever weapon he wanted, but rest assured that the weapon he chose, moral abuse at a time when a person as at his or her lowest causes as much harm, if not more.

Based on which law? if he had to become the accused it would make for a very dangerous precedent where violent criminals could get away with attempted murder (or worse) on the clause of provocation.

Not really Dorielle....He was shrewed enough to use moral violence instead of a physical one!!!!......And she got the brunt of the law against her.

Moral violence is usually the par-exellance weapon of choice used by females to subdue the physically stronger males........There is no law against such torment........This could bring despair on the victims of this moral violence which leave them no choice but to pick the other weapon.....The physical one!!!

Even our two main political parties have their choice of weapons against society.......The Socialist use the physical and the Nationalist party use the moral............

@Richard
"The Socialist use the physical" really?Give examples after Alfred Sant's reign and you have an argument.I can give example of Nationalists using physical during the last general election but I do not generalize and say all right wingers are violent people.

"A case of he asked for it, I'd say. Some just DO."

This argument is incorrect but often raised, usually by rapists and domestic abusers. Would you stand by your comment if it was a man making this argument and not a woman?

i guess you'll agree then if a husband stabs his wife if she provokes him right?

Poor woman? She allegedly took a knife to someone. Physical violence is very illegal, moral violence isn't. If anything you should quesiton the law, both individuals seem to have done reprehensible things, but apparently only the wife committed a crime.

Actually moral or psychological violance is illegal and what the defence are pushing at is that due to said violanxe she was not in the right frame of mind and thus cannot be held liable. if this is proven and i guess they already are getting seperated she can take him for everything he s got
