AirMalta is to build a new head office after selling the property it now occupies to the government.

The airline said last month that it had sold its property for €66m.

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said in parliament this evening that the decision to build new offices was also motivated by the reduction in employees and the need for better communication between the airline's various departments.

He said the airline has identified a site where to build its head office and where all its departments would be grouped together.

The company is evaluating various options to rent offices for the interim period.
