Further to the letter Damaging Acts (February 1), numerous readers – surely including both Michael Grech and Paul M. Cassar – will be pleased to note that the statue in question, the Resurrected Christ in St George’s Basilica, is undergoing restoration. Maltese firm ReCoop was in fact awarded the contract to restore three historically important statues for eventual inclusion among the exhibits at the innovative museum for which Fondazzjoni Belt Victoria is benefitting through ERDF funding.

Another restoration company, Prevarti, is undergoing works on three paintings which also form part of St George’s (and Gozo’s) heritage. Eco-Gozo NGO funding has already supported substantially the remounting of the former main altar artistically created of polychromatic marble.

Numerous contractors have been on site in these last months before inaugation of this cultural centre near the Basilica which will surely become a must-visit location. Benefactors have not been lacking, accepting the open invitation to become FBV life members – thus acquiring various benefits including perpetual free tickets.
