Israel's foreign ministry has confirmed that staff at its embassies in India and Georgia had been targeted by bomb attacks.

"There have been incidents in which embassy staff were targeted in New Delhi and Tbilisi," foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor told AFP.

Initial reports from New Delhi said two people had been injured, but Palmor could only confirm that one Israeli national had been hurt "in an explosion in a car," without giving details of the victim's identity nor how badly he was hurt.

The incident in Georgia also involved an explosive device in a car, Palmor said.

"We are looking into both of these incidents and cooperating with the local law enforcement agencies," he told AFP.

The attacks came between the anniversaries of the deaths of two top Hezbollah militants, Imad Mughniyeh and Abbas Mussawi, which spark annual travel warnings from the Israeli government.

Top Hezbollah commander Mughniyeh was killed in a car bombing in Damascus on February 12, 2008, while Mussawi, the group's secretary general, was killed by an Israeli missile on February 16, 1992.

Both attacks were blamed on Israel and sparked vows of revenge from the Shiite militia group.
