Families experiencing problems should make a continuous effort to remain united and not be tempted to part ways when times get tough, President George Abela said.
We need families that appreciate the advantages offered by the family unit
“If society is to remain strong and keep making progress, we need to have united families who are prepared to face those difficulties that all families are faced with in modern society ... We need families that appreciate the advantages offered by the family unit – economic and emotional stability and helping each other,” he said.
Dr Abela was speaking during a ceremony held in Gozo during which a family was awarded the Qalb tad-Deheb Prize.
This year the award went to the Xuereb family who had to adjust their lives after the son was run over by a car while riding his bicycle. The accident put a huge strain on the family as the boy had to undergo therapy and treatment. However, the family remained united.
Dr Abela and Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono spoke about the importance of family values and unity. Dr Abela said the award, organised by the Cana Movement, recognised the validity of such values.
