Smoking in children’s playgrounds is no longer allowed.

Anyone caught smoking in a playground would be fined between €233 and €1,164 under the Tobacco Control Act, the Local Government Department said.

Local councils, which are responsible for playgrounds, have to clearly mark the borders of the no smoking area. They must also to put up signs prohibiting smoking in playgrounds or gardens with equipment for children.
