The Humanities and Medical Science (HUMS) programme was recently inaugurated to encourage and coordinate scholarly interest in the relationships between the Humanities, Medicine and the Sciences.
Scholars of the humanities, social sciences and the arts have always been interested in matters related to health and illness while doctors and scientists very often also look upon their work as a service that improves and enriches the human experience.
HUMS aims to explore and encourage interfaces between the humanities and medical science, and aims to facilitate and disseminate cross-disciplinary research. It also aims to offer opportunities for postgraduate study and research and to collaborate with local and overseas centres, programmes and individuals.
The initiative is being strongly supported by Dominic Fenech, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Godfrey Laferla, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
