‘Same Difference’ taster
An activity entitled ‘Same Difference’ was recently held at the University’s Junior College by SOS Malta during which staff and students had the opportunity to interact with migrants who have refugee, humanitarian or subsidiary status and sample ethnic food prepared by the migrants themselves.
The migrants form a team of cultural ambassadors that is holding similar events around Malta that use food as a medium to facilitate interaction with local communities.
The project is part-financed by the EU and forms part of the general programme Solidarity and Management of Migration Flows.

According to the government website http://www.ppcd.gov.mt/refugeefund?l=1 in 2011 the NGO SOS Malta was allocated € 159,000 to finance "a team of 5 cultural ambassadors all having refugee or humanitarian/subsidiary status and a coordinator" to travel to various localities in Malta and Gozo "in a branded van to share ethnic food with local community group and initiate dialogue." So those carnivalesque events of sharing ethnic food are being financed by EU funds, that is, our taxes and 5 refugees have been appointed - and presumably are being paid - to go round dishing out ethnic food. Can our taxes not be used better than this?
