The youth section of the Nationalist Party (MZPN) said today that it will take part in the anti-ACTA demonstration in Valletta.
ACTA, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, has been signed by the Maltese government, which has now referred the agreement to a parliamentary committee to discuss ratification.
"This participation underlines the importance that the Internet has to the younger generations. The Nationalist Party has given birth to, and revolutionised information technology in Malta. Thus, when MZPN says that it recognizes the internet as an important element in our lives, and in the way we work, live and relate to each other, it is not paying lip service. It would be unfathomable not to have MZPN in a forum which discusses this critical tool – especially for the younger segment of society," the movement said.
It said its participation marked a contrast from the 'shallow' Labour Party stand which proposed a Tom & Jerry polcy which was simply taking a ‘no’ stance without thinking the matter through.
"MZPN strives to widen the discussion from a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to ACTA, and frames this within the wider context of a debate about the Internet."
