Platini to visit Malta next month

MFA president Norman Darmanin Demajo announced this morning that UEFA president Michel Platini will be visiting Malta on March 31.

Darmanin Demajo was speaking during an activity during which the MFA, Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Clyde Puli, and Finance Minister Tonio Fenech announced an investment of €9 million to improve the facilities for the period 2010-2014.

The investment will incorporate assistance for investment by clubs and new pitches in various localities.

The government's outlay will include donations from the Good Causes Fund, VAT refunds and spending by the Malta Sports Council.

Platini will visit Malta on an invitation of the MFA and is expected to inaugurate a new football ground in Fgura.

In his address Mr Dramanin Demajo insisted that the new facilities needed to be well maintained and investment had to be sustainable. He also stressed that clubs had to balance their books.

Mr Puli said that within the next two years all football clubs will have a modern football facility. More than 9,000 children, members of the MFA clubs' nurseries, will benefit.
