Deaths reported in Syrian blasts
Two explosions have hit the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, causing a number of casualties, the country's state-run TV said.
State SANA news agency said today's explosions caused "deaths and injuries".
The blasts were the first in Aleppo, Syria's largest city, which has been relatively quiet since the uprising against president Bashar Assad's regime erupted in March.
Last month, a suicide attack in the capital Damascus killed 26 people. Assad's crackdown on the uprising has killed more than 5,400 people, according to the UN.
The government blames the unrest on a foreign conspiracy by Israel and the West. It says armed gangs and terrorists are behind the uprising, not protesters seeking democratic change.

According to Bashir al Assad, the unelected Syrian President and one of the Shite Alawite sect - a 10% part of the population who rules over the other 90% - the unrest is caused by armed gangs and terrorists. This is the same excuse used by other murderous dictators. In this case military intervention is very risky due to a difficult logistical situation such as the physical terrain, the Russian military base in Syria and the proximity of Iran with its dominant Shite segment.
I remember the war of liberation in Uganda during 1978-1979 where it had to be Tanzania whose military forces finally got rid of the murderous Idi Amin. Armies from neighbouring countries such as Turkey could successfully neutralise Assad's military hardware and stop him from killing more thousands of Syrian civilians. This would however bring an escalation in conflict if Assad brings in his airforce. The situation is indeed not easy to resolve.
