Obituary
ATTARD MONTALTO. On February 6, Major JOSEPH, ex-RMA (known as Monty), aged 90, residing at Sliema, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Angela and her husband Gaetano Tassone, Hugh and his wife Terry, Simone and her husband Salvatore Tassone and Richard and his wife Carole, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives. The funeral leaves Charella Home, Sliema, today at 8 a.m. for Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Balluta, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
CALI-CORLEO. On February 6, GIUSEPPE, known as Nello, aged 87, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of the Roman Catholic Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Lina, his sons Ramiro and Sergio, Antoinette, his nephews and nieces, as well as other relatives and close friends. Special thanks to the consultants and staff who cared for him at Mater Dei, Zammit Clapp and Boffa Hospitals for the particular attention in his hour of need. Mass præsente cadavere will be said today at 2 p.m. at St Gregory parish church, Sliema, followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Donations instead of flowers to Hospice Malta, Balzan, or Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
CASSAR TORREGGIANI – PAUL, MBE, RMA. Peacefully, at the Joseph Weld Hospice, Dorchester, England, in his 91st year. Loving husband of Heather, and father of Michael and David and his wife Hazel, grandfather of Ben. Paul’s funeral will be at Weymouth crematorium on February 17, followed by interment of ashes in Malta at a later date. May he rest in peace.
CHETCUTI. On February 8, at Cospicua home for the elderly, ANTHONY, widower of Polly, of Birkirkara, aged 88, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Frances Soler, Josephine and her husband David Abela, Lino and his wife Antonina, Michael and his wife Alice, Mario and his wife Doris, Victor and his wife Juanita, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother and his sister, in-laws, their respective spouses and families, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves the Cospicua home for the elderly tomorrow at 7.45 a.m. for St Domenico Savio Oratory church, Birkirkara, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Marija Addolorata Cemetery. On February 7, at Mater Dei Hospital, ORENZIO, ex-Senior Meteorological Assistant, of St Paul’s Bay, aged 89, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church and surrounded by his wife and children. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Pauline, his children Joseph and his wife Lorainne, Mario and his wife Sarah, Lucienne and her husband Paul, his grandchildren Malcolm Paul, Jean-Pierre and Jan, nephews, nieces and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 12.45 p.m. for St Joseph the Worker church, Xemxija, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment in the family vault at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Antonia, his children Marion and her husband Noel and their daughter Oanna, Joe and his wife Pauline and their son Eric, his sisters Carmen, widow of Ġiġi Caruana, Mimi, widow of Freddie Farrugia, and Magdalene, widow of Charlie of the US, in-laws and their respective spouses, other relatives and friends. The funeral will leave Mater Dei Hospital today at 3.15 p.m. for St Augustine church in Rabat, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 3.45 p.m. followed by interment at Santa Margherita Cemetery in Rabat. PHRF event
The Physically Handicapped Rehabilitation Fund will be holding one of its main fundraising events, the annual Gerry Attric 2012 production, at Attard Parish Hall on March 10. Tickets cost €8 for adults and €4 for children and can be bought from the Physically Handicapped Rehabilitation Centre by calling 2169 3863/9984 5600/7926 1949.
Valletta church tours
Our Lady of Victory church in Valletta will be open to the public on Friday between 11 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. Volunteers will guide visitors around the church.
The vault’s paintings by Alessio Erardi are undergoing restoration. Donations will be appreciated.
